[EVENT]: SAKE FESTIVAL MALAYSIA 2017 | NOMI TOMO SAKE BAR

February 01, 2017

I'm glad to be invited to the FIRST Sake Festival in Malaysia organized by Nomi Tomo Sake Bar! This unique tasting event features four Sake brands from Japan, which include Bijofu, Dassai, Gasanryu and Seikyo. We get to sample Japanese sake and learn more about the culture, history and the complex process of turning grains of rice into a potent beverage during the event.

The event took place at Nomi Tomo Sake Bar located at Plaza Damansara. Nomi Tomo means drinking buddies in Japanese. Established in 2015, Nomi Tomo Sake Bar was set up as a Sake specialty bar. No matter you are new to Sake or Sake enthusiast, Nomi Tomo Sake Bar will definitely satisfy you with their huge selection of Sake. They are the distributor of the various brand of Sake, do contact if you are interested in carrying the Sake in your establishment or restaurant.

The info and prices of the Sake are shown on the wall.

Besides from Sake, they have Beer, Shochu, and Japanese Whisky too. Yakitori skewers and small savory dishes is available to accompany the alcoholic drinks. Nomi Tomo Sake Bar is great for casual gathering and after work drinking.

 Sake 101

Sake (pronounced as Sah-Ke) is a rice based alcohol beverage brewed using water, rice, malted rice (Koji) and yeast (Nihonshu or Seishu) in Japan. Sake classifications are based on the degree of milling of the rice grains. The more the rice is milled away, the more fats and proteins are removed and the more expensive the Sake. Besides that, 70% of the raw materials used for brewing Sake is water, so the quality of the water is very important.

 Bijofu 美人夫

*Bijofu means beautiful, strong and kind
*Using the best soft water in Japan from Nahari River and high-quality rice (Yamada-Niishiki rice from Hyogo Prefecture)
*Clear, fresh and well balanced taste

I like the fruit-infused Bijofu Yuzu, which is made of natural Yuzu Juice, Honey and Ginjo Sake. It is very refreshing with a nose of citrus, very easy to drink and suitable for girls.

 Dassai 獭祭

*emphasize on the quality of the Sake, using traditional and modern technology in brewing Sake
*Use top quality rice, Yamada Nishiki and milling away more and more of the outer part of the grains for elegant flavor profile
*Using clear and clen local water in Yamaguchi Prefecture
*Delicate, refined and graceful taste

 •Seikyo 城镜

Seikyo Sake won the First Prize at the National Competition of New Sake in 1948.

I enjoyed sampling different type of Sake during the event and I'm starting to appreciate Sake now. As a beginner in drinking Sake, I never know that there are so many knowledge behind this traditional Japanese alcohol, I think I'm going to drink more Sake after this because the best way to really gain an appreciation for and understanding of Sake is to drink it.
